Cayce’s rich history and amazing people and places are itching to be uncovered, the city’s museum director says. So Leo Redmond and his assistant, Rachel Steen, friends for 50 years, are writing a book about some of the things they say have been overlooked. Residents might discover how little they know about Cayce’s past.

Head of Cayce charity quietly helps those who need it most

Linda Keisler left a comfortable manager’s job at BellSouth because it was God’s will. She ended up in Cayce and now helps over 200 people a month. It was a hard sell for her and her family, but after 19 years, Keisler has established God’s Helping Hands as Cayce’s and West Columbia’s go-to charity.

Break-ins have Avenues residents keeping a close eye on things

Following dozens of car break-ins, residents of Cayce’s Avenues neighborhood are taking steps to protect themselves. While homeowners say it’s still safe, they’re now keeping porch lights on and locking car doors on advice from police.

There are a lot of new faces in The Avenues – the neighborhood of tidy homes that blossomed after World War II but struggled in recent years. One expert says its proximity to the University of South Carolina, just across the Congaree River, has a lot to do with the revival.
